Over the weekend my boyfriend and I packed up the car and headed off for a 3-day camping getaway/activity extravaganza to Flagstaff Lake and Carrabassett Valley. On Friday we set up camp at a wilderness site at Flagstaff and then kicked things off with my first-ever mountain biking trek through the extensive trails around Carrabassett. I managed to make it through the entire ride without any injuries and I had a great time – success! (Or beginner’s luck?) We ended the day with a warm dinner cooked over the camp stove and fell asleep to the loon calls on the lake.
Taking our adventure to the aquatic realm on Saturday, we rented Stand Up Paddleboards from the Adventure Outpost at Sugarloaf and spent the afternoon exploring, and splashing around in, Flagstaff Lake. We couldn’t have asked for more stunning views of Bigelow Range. After my arms couldn’t paddle another stroke, we returned the boards and went to dinner out at local hotspot and a favorite destination when we are skiing at Sugarloaf in the winter, The Rack.
Because we hadn’t fit in enough adventure and activity in yet, we suited up post-dinner and watched the sunset as we waded into the Dead River for an evening of fly-fishing. As A.K. Best puts it, “the fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.”
Happy Monday! Hayley
