I’m sure many of you experienced/are experiencing the snowy, windy spectacle that Juno put on for the Northeast. But if you happen to be in Southern California or the Caribbean perhaps (cough, cough… like Blair’s boyfriend) then we feel sorry for you that you didn’t get a snow day. While we both had work to do from home we also squeezed in some special snow day fun like a buttermilk pancake breakfast and, after work, a movie.
The film, Ondine, has become an instant favorite. The artistic cinematography accompanied by an ethereal soundtrack whisks you away to Ireland with the first note and glimpse of the opening scene. The captivating story causes you to question the line between myth and reality and incorporates the often-tragic legend of selkies, creatures who live as seals in the ocean and morph into human form on land. I don’t want to give anything away because it’s definitely worth a watch, and it’s on Netflix!!
While watching Ondine I was smitten with the overall dark, muted, and salted palette of the scenery and wardrobe. The lead female, played by Alicja Bachleda, wears whimsical ensembles that feature vintage pieces and inspire romance and spontaneity while her male counterpart, a fisherman played by Colin Ferrell, wears the famed knits that Ireland is so well known for.
Inspired by Ondine’s wardrobe, I’ve pulled a few items I will surely pack for my next trip to Ireland… whenever that may be. For the record, when Blair goes fishing with Dad she doesn’t wear a soft pink shirtdress and trench. Just sayin’. She does, however, wear her Hunter boots- so, partial points for accuracy.
Wherever you may be, I hope you are having a wonderful week! Hayley
