Special Note: Congratulations to Liz, the winner of our stationery giveaway, and thank you to everyone who participated! There is more to come, so much more.
It’s official! Yesterday marked the first day of spring. Maine has kept us in a wintery mindset, though yesterday was beautiful and warm! Warm as in the forties… but still.
Spring is arguably the most optimistic season. It heralds emergence, growth and, one hopes, warmth. But, let’s be honest, change can be messy. Spring here is affectionately referred to as “mud season.” There is something vital about the smell of the earth thawing, but it’s not a linear process. Mud can, and does, freeze. This season swings back and forth between warm and cold… snow, rain, sun, rain… maybe more snow… so you see where I’m going with this. You need to be prepared and the answer is layers!
As we plan our spring fly-fishing trip we’ve gathered some of our favorite adaptable and fashionable spring staples (and a paddle) below. A cozy sweater is just right for taking off the chill under a stylish and convertible wading jacket- since it’s waterproof we say it makes the cut as a very cool rain jacket, too! Snow melt and rainfall necessitate good waterproof footwear, but for the sunny day it’s uplifting to break out some comfy kicks- and it’s one step closer to complete foot liberation in summer. Lightweight jeans are perfect spring attire- comfortable on a cool to warm day and they dry fast when you get caught in the rain.
What item or piece of gear are you most looking forward to breaking out this spring? Please let us know in the comments below!
Happy weekend! Hayley
