Now that we’ve welcomed May, I’m transitioning into a warm weather mindset and making summer plans.  Next month I have my first trip of the year planned to one of my favorite places in Maine- Bar Harbor! I became acquainted with the area after college when I returned home with my dear friend from school and spent a season waitressing on Mount Desert Island just outside of Bar Harbor in Otter Creek. I simply fell in love with the area.

When I visit now I always look forward to the numerous activities the island has to offer. There is most definitely something for everyone. Sandy Beach, pictured above, could be right out of the tropics if it wasn’t for all the evergreen trees along the rocky coast. Echo Lake, below, is a well-known swimming hot spot and below below is a vista view from Gorham Mountain, one of the many hikeable peaks.

With places like Mount Desert Island it is easy to fill a summer in Maine with weekend staycations. We can’t wait to pack up the car and hit the road!
