Last Friday I broke my foot. A cuboid bone fracture and some other thing, if I we’re going to be technical about it. Either way you say it, I’m pretty much immobile. I can’t drive, go to work, or stand for too long. I’ve had to recall my toddler years and scoot up and down stairs on my behind, and most of the time I’ve got my foot above my heart. I’m not that flexible so that also means I’m mostly horizontal. However, my mother came up yesterday afternoon to help me with some errands (i.e. picking up a handicap hang tag for my car… I thought I’d be much older before I got one of those!) and after a rest my boyfriend took us out for a simple and delicious dinner at Holbrooks.
The restaurant has a BYOB policy so we packed some cold Geary’s beers and a bottle of wine. We each ordered the beer battered fish which was light and delicious and served with the quintessential lemon wedge and cole slaw. During our meal we watched the sun go down over Cundy’s Harbor, which is Maine’s oldest commercial fishing village (since 1841, apparently!). It was such a nice treat to get out of the house and take in the spectacular Midcoast Maine views this time of year.
I hope you have some plans to enjoy the last bit of summer, too!
Horizontally, Hayley
