margarita tunic playlist flowers cake decorations lobster
May is very nearly upon us, and that means Cinco De Mayo is just around the corner. While this day celebrates a great Mexican battle victory against the French, it is not the Mexican Independence Day as many think. (That’s September 16th!) Regardless, it is widely celebrated in the US and we love the opportunity to spice up a party with friends. Especially after the looong winter we had!
What celebration is complete without yummy accompaniments? Bon Appétit has our mouths watering with their rendition of a refreshing hibiscus margarita, tres leches cake, and- we may have to twist our lobsterman father’s arm to try this- Mexican style lobster! Bonus: the lobster recipe comes from Portland, Maine’s own Chef Shannon Bard from Zapoteca, a delicious Mexican restaurant right up the street from Blair’s apartment!
As you’ve seen in recent posts, we love decorating with fresh flowers and we really like this upcycled tin can as a colorful and unexpected vase. Already the proud owner of a brightly colored tissue garland, I’ll definitely be hanging mine up for the week of Cinco De Mayo. Last but certainly not least, we’ll be dancing around to a playlist that includes the classic Emmylou Harris and hopefully wearing this beautiful embroidered chambray tunic. We’ve got a soft spot for chambray.
Do you enjoy celebrating other international holidays? Which is your favorite?
Saludos, Hayley
